Losing Holmes is Bad News for Sacramento
Richaun Holmes, the Kings’ one bright spot in what has been a grossly underwhelming season, will be sidelined for at least the next two to three weeks after suffering a shoulder injury on January 6th against Golden State.
Holmes is the latest King to fall victim to the injury bug, and this one is really going to hurt Sacramento’s playoff hopes as their chances seem to be dwindling every day.
Holmes has proven to be a model of consistency after taking over the starting center role early in the season when Bagley went down with a broken thumb and Dedmon struggled as the primary replacement.
He almost instantaneously won over the hearts of Kings fans with his great play, hustle, and love for Sacramento.
Now with Holmes out and Bagley returning from injury tonight, look for Giles to get the primary minutes off the bench for the five spot and for Dedmon to get little to no playing time once again.
The Kings play a good, albeit not great, Magic team tonight and they need to get a win if they want to stay relevant in the playoff race. Losing Holmes has undoubtedly hampered their odds.
Sacramento’s season has been largely defined by injuries to Fox, Bagley, Bogdanovic, and now Holmes.
It was not the season most expected out of the Kings, but it’s difficult to reach a peak when some of your top players miss half the season.
Yes, certainly, there is still hope, but the latest injury to Richaun Holmes has really made the playoffs seem even more like a mirage.
